Mary Cate's First Big Outing

As you can see from the picture above Mary Cate had her first big outing yesterday in the form of being held by mommy and daddy. One of us gets to hold her everyday for about 45 minutes a day. So we decided (or I was told, the process was very blurry) that Mom should be the first one to hold her and that meant that the next day was my day (doctors orders Brigit has to share I am trying to get him to extend that order to a couple different things but as of now Brigit just has to share holding privileges). It has been an unbelievable feeling to hold my daughter in my arms and I know that Mom feels the same way.

Mary Cate is progressing well. The first bit of news we got today was about the Head scan. The doctor started off by saying that there wasn’t anything in the CT that he was worried about. Mary Cate did have a little swelling in two of her ventricles of her brain. He explained to us why this happens and to briefly explain she is having a hard time draining some of the fluid in her brain down into her spinal column. He is not really worried about it and said that we would do another head CT in a week. So we are praying that the swelling doesn’t get any worse. The next bit of news is that the doctor can’t hear the murmur anymore. It doesn’t mean that the murmur is gone (it could be that the vessel has opened all the way up and that is why they can’t hear it anymore) we won’t know for sure which one it is until the Echo on Monday so keep praying that the vessel closes. Her breathing stats have been all over the place today but that is to be expected in a baby this small. The nurses and doctors are working hard and she seems a little more stable and heading back in the right direction now. Her eating is going well she is about to go up from 1cc to 2cc and her poop today was big enough to make a daddy very proud.
