For those of you that don’t know on May 17th we flew to Wisconsin to go to a funeral for Brigit’s grandfather. When we got here Brigit was getting nervous about being on her feet the whole day of the funeral so the Monday before the funeral we went to see her grandmother’s doctor just to make sure everything was OK. That was the doctors appointment that changed the face of this trip and our lives.
The doctor said that we needed to proceed directly to the hospital and that he would ride over there with us and get us right up to a room. We went straight to the hospital and got VIP treatment with attending physician taking us up form the emergency room straight to the labor and delivery floor. (The nurses say that never happens). Upon arrival we started to realize that we are going to be in Wisconsin for a very long time. The first question Chris had was are we going to be able to go to the funeral tomorrow and the doctor told us that regretfully that would not be possible, Brigit then chimed in wanting to know if she should call and cancel her 3 o’clock pedicure appointment. Then the really funny questions started like when the nurse asked, “if we had a car seat yet”. Chris told them that he didn’t even a car here in Wisconsin or a change of pants let alone a car a seat. That is again when we realized we were going to be in Wisconsin for a long time.
The rest of Monday was filled with doctors laying out just what was going on and the fact that along with an incompetent husband there were other parts of Brigit’s anatomy that were incompetent as well and that was why we were going to be spending a lot of time in Wis. The hard reality was that our baby could be born at any point and if that happened the chances for survival at 23 weeks were not very encouraging. (I guess any chance of your child not making is way to high but we were looking at very scary numbers) so after a lot of prayer and a lot of tears God really gave us a sense of peace and let us know that we weren’t in charge anymore that He had it from here.
We now are sitting in the Hospital at day number 10 still prego as ever and thanking God for everyday (literally everyday I did not know how fulfilling it would be to write a new number on a calendar every morning). So keep checking back on the blog for updates (I promise they will be shorter) but we thank you for your prayers and concerns and look forward to having each and everyone of you meet baby Mustaine once we leave Wisconsin which will be a long, long time from now.
